Grants for dental?

Are there any grants out there for dental work? I'm a single mom with a full time job, and in school. I have major dental needs including needing my wisdom teeth out! My dental insurance only covers 1,000 a year which I go through fast! I need help!

Grants for dental?
I have a web site dedicated to helping people find affordable dental care and I've never heard of "grants" or vouchers for people seeking financial help paying for their dental care. Our dental care system just doesn't work like that.

However, there are dental clinics that you can go to that provid adequate dental care at little or no cost; the only drawback being you may have to wait several weeks before you can be seen. In addition, dental clinics do not perform any dental procedure that would be considered "cosmetic" in nature such as root canals, bridge work, braces, teeth whightning etc.

I hope this helps.
Reply:No one is going to give you money for dental work. There are many financing companies that dentists offer to help people afford their treatment. some even have intrest free financing for a limited time, and low 9.9 apr after that. Well good luck. http://www.carecredit.com
Reply:It's your responsibility, your out-of-pocket expense.

If there is a dental school in your city you can get low-cost dental work.

If you live in NYC, go to the dental school here.

Two Dental Insurance Policies?

So I've went over my annual maximum for my dental insurance, but I need to get one more procedure done...and soon...I really can't wait until 2008 for my new annual maximum.

My wife just got a new job and has the opportunity to get dental insurance through her new company. It's not the same company as what I have through my work.

Can I be added to her policy to get my procdeure done? Can I have two dental insurance policies at the same time? Is this considered insurance fruad or is this legal and acceptable?

Thanks!

Two Dental Insurance Policies?
It's totally legal, all she needs to do it put you down and get a family plan. That's what it's for. But if she just started the new job she may have a waiting period before it kicks in, you need to check that out.

How is works is you have to put it through your plan first then hers, and it works the same if you have a family plan for her.

It is probably written in your dental plan at work.

My hubby and I do it all the time, his plan pays what mine didn't pick up and visa versa.

i've applied in differents jobs but each dentist says that i need a dental x-ray to work with them.i need to know if i should take a course and where to take it.

Where can i get an x-ray license in new jersey?I'm a foreign dentist and i need to work in a dental office.
Go to the NJ DEP site and click on their links for accurate information. Here is the link to their page on Dental Radiologic Technology. Look near the bottom and you will see the requirements as well as another link to approved educational programs, in case you are in need of this preparation. I am familiar with our local program that was run over the course of one 13 week semester, but I don't even know if you need to complete a course to qualify for taking the exam. Read the web site thoroughly and/or contact the DEP for further information.

You only asked about getting the x-ray license, so I assume you are aware that you can not practice dentistry in any state in the USA without a licenes to practice dentistry. That requires certification by a US dental school to take the licensing examination. If you are interested in that and can not find references, please post an additional question on that topic.
Reply:I only added the additional information "just in case." A rather common question here seems to be about foreign dentists getting an American license and I was just anticipating a possible need. Good luck and contact me any time. - Sam Feinstein Report It

Reply:1st, get a license to pratice, you can't be certified and can't read x-rays. Dentist don't take x-rays, but they do read them. If you can't, some patient is about to get paid.
Reply:Im an xray tech myself and I went to a jr. college and it took me two years to be a tech. Go to the ARRT.com website to see how to become regitered in dental xray. ARRT stands for American Registery of Radiologic Technologist. I am a proud member and I worked hard for my xray license.
Reply:go to school of dentistry in the x-ray dept and apply you might be required to work for free but you will get the experience and be able to take the exam and pass and get a license. or try to find a dentist who can be a protege get him to sponsor you to go for your x-ray license.

can't you find a fellow paisan or somebody from your country.

i don't really know how you went thru the school of dentistry in your own country without learning how to take x-rays and be able to read them so you can treat the patients, you need x-rays to see problems not visible to the human eye.

Once you get your education over here , any dentist will allow you to work with them in their dental office.because you'll be familiar to how things are done here unlike your own country. a lot of nurses, lawyers, dentists or doctors who can not pass the boards here go back to schools here and pass them the second time around. And the chances of finding a job for which you are trained will be greater. it shouldn't take you a long time as you are already a dentist, maybe six month to a yr.all your school credits from your own country will be acknowledged if taken in a university.

after the course taken in the sch of dentistry or junior college you can get your x-ray license via an exam. I assume you already got a license to practice dentistry here.

Is it better to stick with the medical, dental and life insurance benefits my job offers?

Or pick you own? It will cost you much more if you do. Usually, with benefits, the company picks up part of the tab and you pick up the remainder. If you buy insurance on your own, because you're an individual rather than a company (with xxx number of employees), it will cost more.

Is it better to stick with the medical, dental and life insurance benefits my job offers?
Better than what ?

You forgot to give us the alternative . . .

Reply:It is always better to work for an employer that has benefits. It is less costly for you and many times the employer is a better company to work for.

Life changes... My husband wants to go to dental school!?

My husband and I are 28 and 27. We both have great jobs and he is doing great as a bank manager. HOWEVER - he says he feels unfulfilled in his job and wishes he had more of a "real career". He thinks he wants to go to dental school. We are both worried about the enormous strain this will put on our finances. He will have to quit his job for school and we will have to take out lots of student loans, etc. Not only that, but he is also going to have to take about 1 year's worth of undergrad science before he can take the DAT and apply! Then we are looking at about 4 more years of dental school. We have enough money to live comfortably as we are now, so it is more about being fulfilled in his job. I want him to be happy. My questions - hopefully to someone who has experienced this are - How hard is it? How's the payoff and is it worth it? Are you happy now? How did it affect your marriage? Is he too old to make this change? He will be mid 30s when he starts practicing! Help

Life changes... My husband wants to go to dental school!?
You sound like a great wife, he should be glad to have someone who supports him so much. I'm kind of in the same situation. I kept my day job and work full time while I attend night classes to earn my degree and then I can move on. It's really really hard having a full time job and being a full time student...but I'm glad to see that you and your husband know that the work and the payoff is better than him being in a miserable job. I really doubt your husband is too old to start learning new things. However, as far as marriage, keep in mind that if he takes night classes or even if he quits his job and gets a new one while he goes to school...he won't be around as much and he'll have more responsibilities. Me and my wife sometimes don't see each other for awhile and argue sometimes, but it's not that bad. Good luck!
Reply:You have to be able to see the big picture. Yes, it will be hard and there will be sacrifices involved but in the end he will be doing something that he enjoys and it will pay well. Report It

Reply:if he has his mind made up and this is what he feels he wants to do his life is not over yet and he has plenty of time to go to school and pursue this career but he has to have alot of interest in it he cant just do it for one reason and i think that you would incourage him more if you supported him.
Reply:Sorry, no direct experience. It's a good thing that your husband wants to do something more with his life than hold a mediocre career and not really be happy. Ever notice how the most interesting stories in this life are the ones about the challenges people take on and achieve?

This may or may not be for the two of you, but there's always the possibility of having the Army pay his way through all that schooling, which they will. Of course this will incur some considerable service time, but you'll get a chance to travel, you'll still live quite well (which he'll have a good income as an officer), and best of all you'll come out debt free once he's done with his service time. I've met a lot of fellow officers in the medical field that are really happy because they not only get to support the troops directly, but they are sent on a lot of humanitarian missions that help the less fortunate in this world.

Either way, I just recommend that you make the best of whatever choices you make...it's your life after all, and when you look back, what kind of story do you want to end up with? You need to really decide that you're going to follow through either way though. If you attempt to make a drastic change, you have to see it through. Best advice either way is to just research all your options, typical debt, typical pay, etc to get a really good idea of what you'll get. It's the choice of both of you in the end and what challenges you're willing to go through to accomplish the goals you set.
Reply:He could take courses now and not have to quit (those science courses). My wife is taking Master's courses right now, but has a good job and could continue where she is at. I support her decision to go back b/c education is priceless and she feels the same as your husband, that she needs more than the job she has now. Kids who have parents that are highly educated have more impetus to complete a high level of education themselves.

I'm 32 and still paying off my student loans. I have a co-worker who is 48 and just finished his, and we're auditors at a Big 4 accounting firm. I can't believe anyone would want to snuff the desire of their family/friends/spouse to better themselves or get more education!
Reply:i'd be able to answer this question in a few years but until then, i will say this:

1. way to be supportive and realistic.

2. it's a risk to take, but he sounds very driven and more power to him.

3. go for it

4. make sure you have enough to live comfortably.

in the end, you both wanna be happy.

best of luck!

My husband are are currently in that situation ourselves. We married when I was 23 and he was 25. Over the next few years we had rather random approaches toward what we wanted to do, train for, etc. Finally we got ourselves in gear, and he decided as I wanted to become an RN, I would go first and he would put me though by him working first.

I spent the next few years going to nursing school for my RN (and having unexpected preemie babies), but I kept plugging away and did finally graduate and obtain my license in 1998.

So, now hubby is in school studying to be come a teacher for K-12 education and I AM working putting HIM through school. He is a mature returning student of 42 and is doing extremely well, but there ARE stresses such as raising 2 Autistic Children at the same time as me working and he studying. However, he is managing our sons, their needs with amazing grace and aplomb.

We are living off of one income for over 15 year mostly, and is at times a challenge, BUT rarely true hardship. We would do it again, as our children needs us and the family needs us. Loss of those perks that would make life sweeter are not all that necessary.

Look at what you want, look at what it will take to get it it and then decide what is worth losing and what is worth having?
Reply:If it makes him happy then the money issue shouldn't be a problem. You should be happy for him. You only live once.

DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS can you please tell me all about your work?

Hi , I am very interested in a career in dental laboratory work. How and where did you get your training? How do I find a school or college that has this degree/training ? How long was the training ? What is the job like? How much can I expect to earn ? Are jobs plentiful? What are the general hours days like? Any chance for advancement? Is it rewarding work ? Do you have to be artist or mechanically inclined ?I live in the NY metro area .

DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS can you please tell me all about your work?
i have been a dental technician for 16 years, i recieved my training on the job, however you can go to school to learn at any dental school. i would advise that you should have some artistic ability, to be able to make the most money. jobs are fairly plentiful in certain areas. if you go to school they will tell you to expect to come out of school and be able to make 15 dollars an hour which is bull! i would not hire a technician , degree or not with no experience in the lab and pay that. in the south a good ceramist can expect to make about 30,000 a year after you have a 4 to 5 years under your belt. you can find labs that pay rather well, but your best bet is to get some experience in lab, then open your own laboratory. after 16 years now i am making about 60 to 70,000 a year, but it has been hard to get here, and i am very good at what i do. the hours can be very long if you own your own lab, it used to be nothing for me to work 14 hour days 6 days a week, and i am sure it will happen again, its part of the business. it is a very rewarding career for me, i love my work! i think having a desire to help people has to be important for this career. i get much satisfaction when a patient leaves the office in tears of joy, grinning from ear to ear with their new smile! my advice if you are seriously thinking about this as a career, would be to check some labs in your area, explain that you are thinking about going to school for dental technology and ask to be able to come in to the lab for a couple of days and shadow somwone to see what its like. i would do this at more than one lab as they all are run differently, try large as well as small labs just to get a good feel. i hope i have helped! good luck!
