I have noticed everytime I go to get my teeth cleaned wherever it may be that it is always a woman doing it. I just read an article that says that dental hygetist is one of the most paid to-do jobs for not so much educational investment and I thought that I might want to do something like that. I am not sure, however since I don't see that many men doing the job and thought that perhaps men might not do it because dentists might rather have females working for them and not men. Do you think this may be a correct thought?
Do you think there is a place for male dental hygentists in this female dominated career?
There are two men in my class!
Reply:It could be a correct thought. Yet, in a world where women want equality, men should demand it as well. If you think you might be interested, go do it! In all honesty, I think it's female because most men become the dentist, not the hygienist. But I see no reason why you can't be the hygienist.
Reply:Definitely give it some serious consideration. There is NO reason NOT to get into dental hygiene. I don't believe dentists are going to concern themselves at all with your gender, only your skills and personality.
Reply:I think that there are many dentist that will hire a male.
Reply:Dental Hygiene is great for women who may not want to build up a patient load, as does a dentist. After all, when one is off for vacation, patients go elsewhere. All the more so on an extended maternity leave. However, there is no reason men would not enter the field.
Reply:I'm gonig to school in a male-dominated field, and I feel like the professors and people interviewing me appreciate the diversity I bring forth. I think traditionally it was women in hygenist field because they have smaller hands that are easier to work inside the mouth. But if you have compassion and gentleness, then go for it, love!
