I would like to know from other dental hygienist if there is a high turnover rate for dental hygienist.
Dental hygiene job turnover rate?
Hi,I have been a dental hygienist for 20 years. When I was in college our instructors told us the average length of career for a dental hygienist was 5 years!I have stayed interested in the field by constantly going to seminars and staying up to date.I administer my patient's local anesthesia for example. Our job is very repetitive, but I get to know my patients on a personal level and don't think of my job as "just cleaning teeth" all day.It is very good pay,I only work 4 days a week and make over $60,000 a year, but if someone needs a constant change in scenery in a career, they may want to choose nursing, where you can choose anything from being a floor nurse,to becoming a nurse anesthetist or home health nursing.
Reply:I am not a hygienist, but at both the dental offices I worked at we had the same hygienists the entire time. One was 5 years and one was 4 years, so from what I've seen, no there doesn't seem to be a high turn over rate. The job is in high demand in my area, though, because there are always listings in the classifieds around here (WI).
