Tips on landing a great dental assisting job??

I'm a student in school right now, and I've volunteered at the dental school here in the state. After working with them, I'm a little nervous as what to expect out in a private practice. How can I tell if I'm interviewing with a wellmannered dentist, instead of one that will rip me to shreds if I mess up the instrument order??

One thing to remember as much as they are interviewing you, you need to be interviewing them. Be confident.......you've worked hard in school and have something to offer them, remember they need you to help their practice grow..............also working interviews are good things.
Reply:show some leg. hehe that will get you a job :p

no seriously, you can tell a well mannered dentist the same way you can tell if someone is well mannered. By talking to them.

You just need to talk and be friendly and if they talk and are friendly back then that is usually a good indication... other than that if you get any time alone with other dental assistants that work there you could ask them.

Something to ask the other dental assistant also would be, is there a high turn over of employees here. as in do lots of dental assistants leave and have to be replaced regularly. that is a bad sign.

Also as mentioned already, you should see if you can sit in and watch or try assisting to get a real idea of what he's like while a patient is in the chair.

If he seems very arrogant and a bit snobby then he's probably more picky with instrument order. Try finding one thats down to earth :) I hope that helps
