Which Job, RN or Dental Hygienist??

I am very interested in both jobs, Both have good pay, both require about the same amount of school thought i believe DH is a little easier. I know I would enjoy either I am a people person, RN could get a little dirty sometimes, and also sad. But im not sure if DH might get old?? Please let me know what you think. And if you are either of these, tell me how you like your job, your city location, and your pay. Thanks

Which Job, RN or Dental Hygienist??
My best friend is going for DH and then dental school probably (I told her to go straight for a DDS, but what do I know?) Both are good jobs. I think DH would get a bit boring...though they get paid REALLY well in California ($60 an hour....usually more than that). RN is a job you can take anywhere. My mom is an RN and stopped working, but RNs generally can make $50-80K depending on how long they've been there, etc. Both are good choices, I think...they're jobs that will always be in demand. To be an RN, you would have to get your hands dirty (so to speak), but that job just never gets boring (it's the harder of the 2, so I've heard)...I promise you that! Either way, get ready for some heavy science classes.
Reply:An RN could get old. Go for the DH.
Reply:i would prefer RN
Reply:I would recommend DH as well because: DH's get to set their own hours, they make more money than most RNs and it's a whole lot less stress, responsibility and BS than the poor RNs have to deal with. You will have a longer "shelf life" as a DH because you will not have to deal with burn out.
Reply:RN makes more money and would be more interesting
Reply:I think you have a lot more opportunity for career advancement with an RN. I don't know really where you can go beyond dental hygenist?? With RN if you have your bachelors..you can go on to get your Master's degree and become a Nurse practitioner. You can become a Nurse Supervisor, you can teach... I am not currently a nurse, but I am starting at medical assistant right now and planning on continuing on to my RN with in the next few years.
Reply:I think you would have very many more options with an RN license. The important thing though is deciding what you think you would enjoy doing. Starting pay in NYC for Rn's is approximately $60,000 and sometimes higher.
Reply:I think an RN is more rewarding, and it is in very HIGH demand. We need nurses in this world....don't go for the DH cuz it's easier...go for what you could truly see yourself do
Reply:I am an RN, so I may be a little biased. I love my job!!! I am an oncology nurse * I treat cancer patients*, There are a few bad things about being a nurse, here goes. The hours are Long, you are Dog tired when you get off, and you are exposed to alot of really nasty things ie... bacterias that only a couple of antibiotics cna treat. The good things are: I work 12 hour shift 3 days a week, that means 4 days a week off. I can make enought to support my family, and still have time during the week to spend with my 2 young children and get things done that need to be done. I meet alot of very interesting people, my patients and their families, and get to know them well enough for them to become a sort of extended family. Yes, Itake care of people whom are very ill, after long series of treatments. But, I also take care of people who actually get better with the treatments I give them. I have made some very close friends. My son's God Mother is actually one of my ex-patients. I make $32 an hour, and $48 an hour on holidays( and that isn't topped out). That is nothing to over look. I went to school half the time my husband did and I make twice as much as him. I have held my patients as they have laughed, lived, faught, cried and yes, died. I would not change a thing about what I do. A nurse can specialize in any branch of the field. Pediatrics *children*, geriatrics *the elderly*, Cardiology, oncology, School nursing, sports medicine, the list is infinite. SO many, I couldn't begin to list them all.

A Dental hygenist is not on their feet as much. But I can only wonder at how boring it would be to clean other people's teeth day in and day out. Here you would make about $18-22 an hour tops. There is no advancement or speciality areas. it is the same mundane thing over and over every day. Add the fact that the career oppourtunities just aren't there, there are about 1 DH job advertised in the newspaper to ever 50 RN position listed. I hope I helped!!!
Reply:While they both make a healthy sum of money, RNs are in demand and Dental Hygienists are not. I currently work as a dental assistant but I'm studying to eventually become a nurse. Working in a dental office definitely doesn't get old - it's so much fun! I researched it for my area, New York City, and DHs make 65,000 on average while RNs make closer to 70,000. Also, it's definitely a harder job to be an RN than an DH - less stress especially.
