Grants for dental?

Are there any grants out there for dental work? I'm a single mom with a full time job, and in school. I have major dental needs including needing my wisdom teeth out! My dental insurance only covers 1,000 a year which I go through fast! I need help!

Grants for dental?
I have a web site dedicated to helping people find affordable dental care and I've never heard of "grants" or vouchers for people seeking financial help paying for their dental care. Our dental care system just doesn't work like that.

However, there are dental clinics that you can go to that provid adequate dental care at little or no cost; the only drawback being you may have to wait several weeks before you can be seen. In addition, dental clinics do not perform any dental procedure that would be considered "cosmetic" in nature such as root canals, bridge work, braces, teeth whightning etc.

I hope this helps.
Reply:No one is going to give you money for dental work. There are many financing companies that dentists offer to help people afford their treatment. some even have intrest free financing for a limited time, and low 9.9 apr after that. Well good luck. http://www.carecredit.com
Reply:It's your responsibility, your out-of-pocket expense.

If there is a dental school in your city you can get low-cost dental work.

If you live in NYC, go to the dental school here.

Two Dental Insurance Policies?

So I've went over my annual maximum for my dental insurance, but I need to get one more procedure done...and soon...I really can't wait until 2008 for my new annual maximum.

My wife just got a new job and has the opportunity to get dental insurance through her new company. It's not the same company as what I have through my work.

Can I be added to her policy to get my procdeure done? Can I have two dental insurance policies at the same time? Is this considered insurance fruad or is this legal and acceptable?

Thanks!

Two Dental Insurance Policies?
It's totally legal, all she needs to do it put you down and get a family plan. That's what it's for. But if she just started the new job she may have a waiting period before it kicks in, you need to check that out.

How is works is you have to put it through your plan first then hers, and it works the same if you have a family plan for her.

It is probably written in your dental plan at work.

My hubby and I do it all the time, his plan pays what mine didn't pick up and visa versa.

Where can i get an x-ray license in new jersey?I'm a foreign dentist and i need to work in a dental office.

i've applied in differents jobs but each dentist says that i need a dental x-ray to work with them.i need to know if i should take a course and where to take it.

Where can i get an x-ray license in new jersey?I'm a foreign dentist and i need to work in a dental office.
Go to the NJ DEP site and click on their links for accurate information. Here is the link to their page on Dental Radiologic Technology. Look near the bottom and you will see the requirements as well as another link to approved educational programs, in case you are in need of this preparation. I am familiar with our local program that was run over the course of one 13 week semester, but I don't even know if you need to complete a course to qualify for taking the exam. Read the web site thoroughly and/or contact the DEP for further information.

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/rpp/tec/denta...

You only asked about getting the x-ray license, so I assume you are aware that you can not practice dentistry in any state in the USA without a licenes to practice dentistry. That requires certification by a US dental school to take the licensing examination. If you are interested in that and can not find references, please post an additional question on that topic.
Reply:I only added the additional information "just in case." A rather common question here seems to be about foreign dentists getting an American license and I was just anticipating a possible need. Good luck and contact me any time. - Sam Feinstein Report It

Reply:1st, get a license to pratice, you can't be certified and can't read x-rays. Dentist don't take x-rays, but they do read them. If you can't, some patient is about to get paid.
Reply:Im an xray tech myself and I went to a jr. college and it took me two years to be a tech. Go to the ARRT.com website to see how to become regitered in dental xray. ARRT stands for American Registery of Radiologic Technologist. I am a proud member and I worked hard for my xray license.
Reply:go to school of dentistry in the x-ray dept and apply you might be required to work for free but you will get the experience and be able to take the exam and pass and get a license. or try to find a dentist who can be a protege get him to sponsor you to go for your x-ray license.

can't you find a fellow paisan or somebody from your country.

i don't really know how you went thru the school of dentistry in your own country without learning how to take x-rays and be able to read them so you can treat the patients, you need x-rays to see problems not visible to the human eye.

Once you get your education over here , any dentist will allow you to work with them in their dental office.because you'll be familiar to how things are done here unlike your own country. a lot of nurses, lawyers, dentists or doctors who can not pass the boards here go back to schools here and pass them the second time around. And the chances of finding a job for which you are trained will be greater. it shouldn't take you a long time as you are already a dentist, maybe six month to a yr.all your school credits from your own country will be acknowledged if taken in a university.

after the course taken in the sch of dentistry or junior college you can get your x-ray license via an exam. I assume you already got a license to practice dentistry here.

Is it better to stick with the medical, dental and life insurance benefits my job offers?

Or pick you own? It will cost you much more if you do. Usually, with benefits, the company picks up part of the tab and you pick up the remainder. If you buy insurance on your own, because you're an individual rather than a company (with xxx number of employees), it will cost more.

Is it better to stick with the medical, dental and life insurance benefits my job offers?
Better than what ?

You forgot to give us the alternative . . .

Reply:It is always better to work for an employer that has benefits. It is less costly for you and many times the employer is a better company to work for.

Life changes... My husband wants to go to dental school!?

My husband and I are 28 and 27. We both have great jobs and he is doing great as a bank manager. HOWEVER - he says he feels unfulfilled in his job and wishes he had more of a "real career". He thinks he wants to go to dental school. We are both worried about the enormous strain this will put on our finances. He will have to quit his job for school and we will have to take out lots of student loans, etc. Not only that, but he is also going to have to take about 1 year's worth of undergrad science before he can take the DAT and apply! Then we are looking at about 4 more years of dental school. We have enough money to live comfortably as we are now, so it is more about being fulfilled in his job. I want him to be happy. My questions - hopefully to someone who has experienced this are - How hard is it? How's the payoff and is it worth it? Are you happy now? How did it affect your marriage? Is he too old to make this change? He will be mid 30s when he starts practicing! Help

Life changes... My husband wants to go to dental school!?
You sound like a great wife, he should be glad to have someone who supports him so much. I'm kind of in the same situation. I kept my day job and work full time while I attend night classes to earn my degree and then I can move on. It's really really hard having a full time job and being a full time student...but I'm glad to see that you and your husband know that the work and the payoff is better than him being in a miserable job. I really doubt your husband is too old to start learning new things. However, as far as marriage, keep in mind that if he takes night classes or even if he quits his job and gets a new one while he goes to school...he won't be around as much and he'll have more responsibilities. Me and my wife sometimes don't see each other for awhile and argue sometimes, but it's not that bad. Good luck!
Reply:You have to be able to see the big picture. Yes, it will be hard and there will be sacrifices involved but in the end he will be doing something that he enjoys and it will pay well. Report It

Reply:if he has his mind made up and this is what he feels he wants to do his life is not over yet and he has plenty of time to go to school and pursue this career but he has to have alot of interest in it he cant just do it for one reason and i think that you would incourage him more if you supported him.
Reply:Sorry, no direct experience. It's a good thing that your husband wants to do something more with his life than hold a mediocre career and not really be happy. Ever notice how the most interesting stories in this life are the ones about the challenges people take on and achieve?

This may or may not be for the two of you, but there's always the possibility of having the Army pay his way through all that schooling, which they will. Of course this will incur some considerable service time, but you'll get a chance to travel, you'll still live quite well (which he'll have a good income as an officer), and best of all you'll come out debt free once he's done with his service time. I've met a lot of fellow officers in the medical field that are really happy because they not only get to support the troops directly, but they are sent on a lot of humanitarian missions that help the less fortunate in this world.

Either way, I just recommend that you make the best of whatever choices you make...it's your life after all, and when you look back, what kind of story do you want to end up with? You need to really decide that you're going to follow through either way though. If you attempt to make a drastic change, you have to see it through. Best advice either way is to just research all your options, typical debt, typical pay, etc to get a really good idea of what you'll get. It's the choice of both of you in the end and what challenges you're willing to go through to accomplish the goals you set.
Reply:He could take courses now and not have to quit (those science courses). My wife is taking Master's courses right now, but has a good job and could continue where she is at. I support her decision to go back b/c education is priceless and she feels the same as your husband, that she needs more than the job she has now. Kids who have parents that are highly educated have more impetus to complete a high level of education themselves.

I'm 32 and still paying off my student loans. I have a co-worker who is 48 and just finished his, and we're auditors at a Big 4 accounting firm. I can't believe anyone would want to snuff the desire of their family/friends/spouse to better themselves or get more education!
Reply:i'd be able to answer this question in a few years but until then, i will say this:

1. way to be supportive and realistic.

2. it's a risk to take, but he sounds very driven and more power to him.

3. go for it

4. make sure you have enough to live comfortably.

in the end, you both wanna be happy.

best of luck!

My husband are are currently in that situation ourselves. We married when I was 23 and he was 25. Over the next few years we had rather random approaches toward what we wanted to do, train for, etc. Finally we got ourselves in gear, and he decided as I wanted to become an RN, I would go first and he would put me though by him working first.

I spent the next few years going to nursing school for my RN (and having unexpected preemie babies), but I kept plugging away and did finally graduate and obtain my license in 1998.

So, now hubby is in school studying to be come a teacher for K-12 education and I AM working putting HIM through school. He is a mature returning student of 42 and is doing extremely well, but there ARE stresses such as raising 2 Autistic Children at the same time as me working and he studying. However, he is managing our sons, their needs with amazing grace and aplomb.

We are living off of one income for over 15 year mostly, and is at times a challenge, BUT rarely true hardship. We would do it again, as our children needs us and the family needs us. Loss of those perks that would make life sweeter are not all that necessary.

Look at what you want, look at what it will take to get it it and then decide what is worth losing and what is worth having?
Reply:If it makes him happy then the money issue shouldn't be a problem. You should be happy for him. You only live once.

DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS can you please tell me all about your work?

Hi , I am very interested in a career in dental laboratory work. How and where did you get your training? How do I find a school or college that has this degree/training ? How long was the training ? What is the job like? How much can I expect to earn ? Are jobs plentiful? What are the general hours days like? Any chance for advancement? Is it rewarding work ? Do you have to be artist or mechanically inclined ?I live in the NY metro area .

DENTAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS can you please tell me all about your work?
i have been a dental technician for 16 years, i recieved my training on the job, however you can go to school to learn at any dental school. i would advise that you should have some artistic ability, to be able to make the most money. jobs are fairly plentiful in certain areas. if you go to school they will tell you to expect to come out of school and be able to make 15 dollars an hour which is bull! i would not hire a technician , degree or not with no experience in the lab and pay that. in the south a good ceramist can expect to make about 30,000 a year after you have a 4 to 5 years under your belt. you can find labs that pay rather well, but your best bet is to get some experience in lab, then open your own laboratory. after 16 years now i am making about 60 to 70,000 a year, but it has been hard to get here, and i am very good at what i do. the hours can be very long if you own your own lab, it used to be nothing for me to work 14 hour days 6 days a week, and i am sure it will happen again, its part of the business. it is a very rewarding career for me, i love my work! i think having a desire to help people has to be important for this career. i get much satisfaction when a patient leaves the office in tears of joy, grinning from ear to ear with their new smile! my advice if you are seriously thinking about this as a career, would be to check some labs in your area, explain that you are thinking about going to school for dental technology and ask to be able to come in to the lab for a couple of days and shadow somwone to see what its like. i would do this at more than one lab as they all are run differently, try large as well as small labs just to get a good feel. i hope i have helped! good luck!

Is anyone a dental hygienist?

My friends are all taking CNA classes so when they get out of high school they have a decent paying job while going to college...I want to find something like that...but I'm not really into being a CNA...my friend was talking about other jobs you could do and the one I was most interested in is a dental hygienist....does anyone know if you could do the same type of program?

Is anyone a dental hygienist?
Dental Hygiene would be more along the line of getting your RN. I am in the process right now of trying to get into a dental hygiene program; and I will be up front and honest- This program is very hard to get into and has two years of intense schooling.

A CNA can get their certificate by taking one class and passing an exam. You could try a Dental Assisting program, but you would still have a longer time in school than a CNA.

On the bright side, if you are willing to put in the hard work and get accepted into a Dental Hygiene program, you will be greatly rewarded.

In my area, CNA's start at around $10 per/hr, Dental Assistants- $12 per/hr, Nurses- $30 per/hr and Dental Hygienists- $32+.

This is not to say that money should be your only factor, but you need to decide what your level of decent pay equates to.

As a side note, most of your careers in the medical field (that are not assistant level) will be relatively well-paying and typically in demand.

Good Luck with your choice.

Which is better? for a dental hygienist ??

Does it matter if I get my associates or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? Could I get a better job if I have my bachelors, or does it not really matter? I'm just trying to decide if I just get my associates degree or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? any information would be greatly appreciated =)

Which is better? for a dental hygienist ??
If you go for a bachelor's, you might as well be a dentist and do a few years more. An associate degree will allow you to work a few years extra than staying in school longer.

Dental professionals...please help!!!!.....Major career decision!!!!?

I just started dental hygiene school at a community college in my city and i was very excited when i first started. I believe that it is something that i will enjoying doing for the long haul but i am just afraid that there wont be enough jobs openings when i graduate and that i may not be able to find employment. Are there alot of job opportunities for this career??? Is it hard for most hygienists to find jobs after graduation??? Can someone help me......i am trying to decide whether i should stay in this field and i would prefer to make the right decision now versus graduating and finding out i made the wrong one.

Dental professionals...please help!!!!.....Major career decision!!!!?
Sometimes it takes awhile to get into a job right after college with a degree.

In the mean time. I would volunteer at a local dental clinic. (help people in the community for experience)

Then apply for a full time job doing dental work.
Reply:sure you will find out lots of jobs oportunity, dodnt worry. am a dentist and believe me you will have plenty oportunitys
Reply:Actually a good Hygienist can get employed very quickly. However the State you wish to practicee in may have some bearing on that. One thing you want to check on is does the state you want to practic in have what it called a "Preceptorship" program that allows dentist to train their own hygienist right out of high school under an On The Job Training system?? If that is the case you need to consider going to another state as the salary you will be offered will be very low, as much as a third of what you can earn in a state that doesn't allow the "Preceptorship" program. Being a Hygienist is a great career in the right location so go for it.
Reply:There are always job openings for hygienist. The good thing about being a hygienist is that a lot of them only work part time. I mean part time as in working 3 or 4 days a week. I think its a great job to have. I think private practice is good to work in but if you can't find that a city or state job is good too because you get all the holidays off. Good luck.
Reply:Oh jeez! You'll get a job before you can say "succedaneous!" :) Almost all communities (besides urban ones) are facing a profound shortage for both dentists and hygienists. If you are professional, excellent with patients and a great clinician you will have absolutely no trouble, and will also get excellent pay (between $30-50/hr.) I would recommend seeking a community that needs you. If there aren't many openings in the city you're in now, don't be afraid to branch out and compare offers in different geographic areas! Feel free even now to call around or look in the papers and see who's hiring. I'd recommend a small practice instead of a large chain like Aspen Dental since it's usually more intimate and there's less corporate business stuff.

Not to worry!

Would you rather be a dental hygienist or have a desk job such as Human Resources?

desk job.... who wants to have to stick their hands into people's mouths all day?

Help with Dental Charting?

I am currently a dental assistant, who is training on the job. And i am doing pretty good so far im just having trouble with the charing. With where to mark when he says MLI or MOD, If you know a website or know something that could help me please let me know.

Help with Dental Charting?
Picture a tooth as having five sides (surfaces) Posterior teeth (back). M is for Mesial ,that is the surface toward the front of the mouth (Mid-Line). D is for Distal, that is the surface toward the back of the mouth. O is for Occlusal , that is the surface that does the chewing. When the upper and lower teeth come together they Occlude. MOD then is Mesial Occlusal Distal. MO is Mesial Occlusal, DO is Distal Occlusal. L is for Lingual (tongue) side the tooth. B is for Buccal, cheek side. The Anterior (front) teeth a little different. MD is the same; but the O (occlusal) becomes Incisal. Front teeth are Incisors. Example; if the Distal corner is broken, it will take a DI (Distal Incisal) restoration to fix. The Buccal or lip (Face) side of the tooth is called Labial could still use B or F or Lab, ask the Dr.. The tongue side is still the Lingual (L) Called charting. One night study and this should be second nature. Good Luck
Reply:You should have a diagram of the tooth on the chart. "M" or mesial is the part of the tooth towards the middle or front of the mouth,"d" is distal or back part of the tooth...o is the occlusal or biting part, google charting , maybe that will help..or message me and I will help ya more!! Good luck!
Reply:MOD is mesial, occlusal, distal...that would mean it goes from the sides of the tooth, up and over the occlusal surface and down the other side. I cant seem to find any good sites, but why not ask the dentist if he has any books on it or where you could possible get some dental school books from. its the best way to learn. I'm in my last year of hygiene, but when we were learning our teacher came up with some charting exercises to help us learn.

Whyis the dental nurses role so important?

what role does the dental nurse play and what does their job entail

Whyis the dental nurses role so important?
because people have 32 teeth and once a teeth is gone .. they are gone ... we never have our teeth grow like many other parts like nail, hair...
Reply:There's no such thing as a dental nurse. There are dental hygienists, and there are dental assistants. Hygiene programs work the same way as nursing programs (i.e. can be done as part of a 4-year bachelors degree or 2 years after a bachelor's degree), however, hygienists aren't anywhere near as knowledgeable as nurses. They know a smattering of things about the oral cavity and how to clean it.

Dental assistants are basically high school graduates who may or may not have been through a few months of dental assisting school.

Some oral and maxillofacial surgeons do hire nurses for their offices, and I suppose you could refer to them as "dental nurses".
Reply:There are dental hygienists that are responsible for cleaning teeth and educating patients on proper oral hygiene which is very important. They go to school for aprox. four years. Then there are dental assistants that are responsible for assisting the doctor with procedures, it seems to me that they do more work than the dentist depending on the state laws and what they are allowed to do. They are responsible for making temporary crowns, adjusting fillings, placing sealants, suctioning and rinsing, passing all insruments to the dentists. There educational background varies, they could be right out of high school and trained on the job, or go to a vocational school for the trade, and some of them even have a B.S. degree. They must also pass tests to be x-ray certified, nitrous certified, and sealant certified. Those tests depend on the state and the laws.

Is it legal for employer to offer better dental insurance to select few?

I overheard today that there is a few people here at my job who are on a better dental plan. I guess it's not being offered to everyone because of the cost, and because the other's have children. Can they do this?

Is it legal for employer to offer better dental insurance to select few?
They sure can. Everything is negotiable. They'll try to keep everyone on the same plans, but if they want to land a really good prospect who is holding out, they'll negotiate better pay/benefits.
Reply:I think that benefits are part of your salary negotiation. Therefore, they are confidential between you and your employer and it is up to your employer what he/she wants to offer.

At the same time, it is illegal to discriminate based on age, gender, etc.

I would recommend negotiating your benefits in the same manner in which you negotiate your salary - in a closed room discussion with your employer. Avoid gossip and office discussions about salary and benefits - right or wrong, getting in the middle of this will only reflect poorly on you to your employer.
Reply:Well, I was ok with it until your statement about some people having children......

It is certainly legal for companies to offer different levels of benefit plans to different employees. For example, executives usually get a richer benefit package than rank-and-file folks. It is also permissible for the company to offer and even to subsidize insurance for the spouses and dependents of employees.

What I don't understand is why the company would offer a completely different (and apparently more comprehensive) plan only to employees who have children. That seems to border on discriminatory treatment to me.....

Dental School Admission Question--PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!?

I am a sophomore in my 2nd semester. I hope to achieve my D.D.S. The problem is, a T.A. told me that i was not a good candidate for dental school, and that I should rethink my life. He says that dental school is now harder to get into than med school. I have a cumulative gpa of a 3.0 after 3 semesters of college. (It's low i know, but I really hope to bring it up). I transferred in from high school over 30 college credits with a gpa of a 3.78. This gpa does not configure into my current college gpa, because they were from another institution they go as a "T" on my transcripts.I work two jobs, one on my campus, and a retail job off of campus. I am a resident advisor at my school. I am also an officer in the bio club, and very active in other campus clubs and activities. I am also very active in my community, also I intern every summer and winter break with a dentist and oral surgeon. Is it true? Am i really not dental school material. Or is it still possible to get in? PLEASE HELP!

Dental School Admission Question--PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!?
The average GPA of students that get into most Dental Schools is about a 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale), but they will accept you with a lower GPA. They do consider earlier course study, number of courses, difficulty of courses, etc, so you could always explain these things on your application. If you get a good score on your DAT, you should be alright (18 or higher is probably good). There are a lot of Dental Schools out there, so you should look around at their different requirements.

http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/programs/sear...

Good luck!
Reply:Tell your TA to be quiet. Just do your best to get your grades up and do your best. When you get into Dental School you will know that the TA has no idea what he talking about.

Although GPA plays an important role your interview is just as important. They want to know YOU. There are plenty of people with Perfect GPAs or High DATs that get rejected and there are plenty of people with 3.2 and 3.3 that get accepted. So just work hard and do your best.

Reply:The problem with private dental plans, is, by the time you add up all the monthly premiums, subtract deductibles and copays, and look at what's not covered, or what's only covered after a year waiting period, it's cheaper to pay out of pocket.
Reply:Call your local dental school. They probably have a dental student or two who would love to relieve your mother's pain at a deeply discounted price!

Any Suggestions For Jobs With No College Degree?

Hi - Currently I am a flight attendant and I've worked with the same company for 15 years.

Before that I was a dental assistant for 9 years.

I also have had sales jobs: cars, carpet, and healthclub memberships.

After all of these years of traveling and being away from home so much I'm ready for a change. I was in the Army National Guard but I don't have any college(and don't want to go). I'm 41 yrs old.

I'm fortunate enough that I don't have to support an entire family but I do need to contribute to our income.

Sales at like Quick Weight loss Center or Jenny Craig, etc. sounds interesting. Any suggestions?

Any Suggestions For Jobs With No College Degree?
Be a loan officer, appraisor.. good money, little training.. I used to work for the electric co. here in Chicago as a customer service rep, and I started at over $18/hour.. plus benefits.. no degree.. some training.. helps that you have customer skills, which you do:)

Good luck!
Reply:Plenty of jobs in the motel and food service industries.
Reply:Always lots of sales jobs.

The secret is to sell products which are expensive and have high profit margins.

Not cars.

Real estate, corporate mgmnt software, NOT PC stuff.
Reply:There are many jobs out there that don't require a degree, just good training, hard work, common sense and a good attitude.

Sounds like your good with people- if your the office type a receptionist, sales if you want the retail/food services. You can work your way up and even maybe find your niche.

Good Luck.

Degree in Dental Hygiene??

Does it matter if I get my associates or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? Could I get a better job if I have my bachelors, or does it not really matter? I'm just trying to decide if I just get my associates degree or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? any information would be greatly appreciated =)

Degree in Dental Hygiene??
I'm not sure if getting one's bachelor's in dental hygiene is that much more of an asset unless wanting to teach or such. I do know that the program itself is quite rigorous which is heavy in the sciences, even the prereq's. Each program may have different requirements.

For more general info: www.bls.gov/oco and search 'dental hygiene'.

For US colleges: www.utexas.edu/world/univ
Reply:do dental hygien-est assist dentist during cleanings and all taht? if so, id say go for your bachelors. so many people are going for the other one that they like to keep them young, so your job isnt that stable. you'll feel better about yourself with BA/BS adn you'll get paid more automatically. good luck

Free dental programs?

I have exstensive dental problems but can't get a job because of it and have no insurance is there any free dental programs in chicago that could possibly help me with this problem?

Free dental programs?
There should be free dental clinics in your area, check your yellow pages. Also look for local colleges that have dental schools. Treatment can be done for minimal costs, although you have to keep in mind that it is a learning facility so be prepared to spend some time there. I'm not sure about any major dental work, but maybe they can steer you in the right direction. Best wishes!

Do dental assistant get well pay ?

i whant to be a dental assistan i thinck its a good job but i am not sure if i am making the right disision . this is why i would like to know if they get well pay and if its fun being a dental assistant. please help!!!

Do dental assistant get well pay ?
I am from the New York area and I make 19 dollars an hour. I love my job as a dental assistant.
Reply:as if ur in a foreign country.. many people will have both dental, pshycological, etc problems.. so i think the job as a dental assistant will surely pay u a lot.... enjoy the job and work ya..
Reply:It's fun!...If you like people. They can get paid anywhere from 7 to like 20 something dollars...just depending on what kind of dentist you work for and also experience.
Reply:I am a dental assistant, and in this field it depends on how much experience you have. Try going to quite a few interviews before you pick which office you want to work at and do working interviews also, you will be able to see how well you work with the doctor and the rest of the staff. If you find a practice you like and stick with them, the doctor will give you a raise, once you show him the your skills that you can contribute to his office. I know a dental assistant who has worked with a dr for 20 yrs and is getting paid $25 an hour. Stick with it the dental field is a good field, look into dental hygiene also, they make twice the money an assistant makes ;) Good luck
Reply:I am a dental assistant in the Louisiana area. I am paid $13 an hour and I have worked for this dentist for 3 years, but I did have 4 year experience when I started. You will probably start at about $7 and once you get the experience you need and understand everything you have to do, you will begin to get more money. It may help to take a dental assistant class at a technical college.
Reply:well it depends if you get certified or registered you will make more money, If you have a cpr certification and an xray license you'll make more too. If you have the opportunity to go to school stick to it. There are other jobs that are rewarding and fun that pay better. If you like teeth consider dental hygiene they are one step up from dental assistants.

Assistant: 10-14 depending on where you live

Certified Assistant:16-20+depending on where you live

Hygiene-400 dollars a day depending on where you live

these are not exact but the pay will be somewhere around there depending on where you live

Any reccomendations for a good dental insurance??

i have health insurance through my job, but they do not offer dental.

Any reccomendations for a good dental insurance??
You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don't need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you're willing to let them practice on you.

3. Insurance - Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they'll pay per year of $750 - $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you're paying 50% of the charges. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage - you can use any dentist with most plans.

4. Discount plans - Cost - $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health %26amp; dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes... concerning these plans.

5. Fee for Service discount plans - Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example - average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I'm an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?lo... specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.
Reply:Its hard to get individual coverage with dental insurance.

There are lots of companies that have so-called "plans", but they are just discounts, not actual insurance, so be careful in your search.

Delta Dental does offer individual in some states.

Dental Hygiene?!?

Does it matter if I get my associates or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? Could I get a better job if I have my bachelors, or does it not really matter? I'm just trying to decide if I should get my associates degree or bachelor degree in dental hygiene? any information would be greatly appreciated =)

Dental Hygiene?!?
Where I live (VA, I've lived in Richmond and Hampton Roads) you are going to make the same amount whether you have an associates or a bachelors degree in DH. I got my bachelors because that's what the school I went to (VCU) offered. From what I understand from other hygienists who have associates is that they still needed pre-requisites to get accepted into an associates program (which is 2 years) so they still ended up going to school for 3-4 years total. The only benefit I see to having a bachelors is if you want to pursue another career choice down the road you will have an easier time since you already have a bachelors even if it is in DH. But as far as pay and finding a job the associates is fine and if that is what the school closest to you is offering I say go for it.
Reply:a bachelors degree is always looked upon highly. depends on exactly what you want to do with the degree.
Reply:Bachelors would be better, but it also depends on who you get to know. Get close to people who are in the field and even if you have your associates, you can get a good position. Plus people would trust you more if you have a bachelors, but also if you get along with the right people.

Why are most dental nurses women??

How come many dental nurses are women, and how come many dentists are men? For dental nurses what made you want to become a dental nurse rather than a dentist? Surely you can make more moneyas a dentist, so why didn't you choose that route? I don't want to be a dentist/dental nurse, but am just curious. As it appears to me that despite women being allowed to do jobs nowadays that they once were not allowed to do due to it being frowned upon for women to do jobs were regarded as men work, it appears that traditional gender roles are still rife in todays society. That is, we are still a long way off with regards to equal amounts of women doing jobs that were once male orientated.

Why are most dental nurses women??
cause they get those tiny work clothes? i dunno guess they like being called nurses.
Reply:Because they provide a feminine foil to the dentists dastardly plan!
Reply:i guess because they are more gentle ie the gentle gender
Reply:Sex discrimination,I was a coal miner in uk for 35 years ,I thought it was a mans job..In came the sex discrimination Act,to my disgust may i add,and i found i was training women to be coal miners, and guess what some where extremely good, some were not as Strong as men but there was loads of jobs underground they could do.men could easily do a dental nurses job but most men would want alot more money for doing it.The dentist would not want to pay therefor that's where the problem lays
Reply:I think that men just see dental assisting and dental hygiene jobs as more feminine because that's the way they've been brought up to think. I'm sure that the demographics are probably changing over time as people's perceptions change and they become more open minded.

As far as dentists go, I'm in Dental School right now and my class is about 50/50 men and women. Once again, I think that the demographics of the profession are changing over time, and eventually you won't see such a disparity between men and women owning dental practices.
Reply:Same reason why there are more female nurses and male doctors.
Reply:They are either dental assistants or dental hygienists....NOT dental nurses!! "Nurses" are medical. Anyway, you do see many women as dentists these days, but you are right, most dental assistants and hygienists are female. Don't know why.
Reply:Today there are more and more women becoming Dentist. I think a lot has to do with the role women play as a mother, caregiver, wife and the time and money involved in becoming a doctor has to play a part also. Most hygienist can get their license in 2 to 4 years college training. An assistant can get college training within a year or two, or on the job training as long as they can pass the National Certification test, and some states don't even require that. Traditionally the role of hygienist and assistant has been women, I think mainly because we are caregivers. We as women are consoling and comforting, something that all people need when seeing a dentist with a tooth ache. As for me, it was the money issue and family responsibilities. If I had pursued a career straight out of high school rather than marriage and family, it would have been towards a doctor’s degree in Dentistry. Society today still sees the role of dentist as a male for a lot of reasons. I think mainly because it's what we've all grown up with. It is great to see women taking on the doctor role though!

p.s. In my 40 years of dental work, I've never seen a male assistant, nor have I ever heard an assistant refer to herself as a dental nurse. Not sure of the ratio in India for doctor gender.
Reply:Might be you are just moving around with blinkers covering your vision.Who says that most dentists are men and women being Assistants? I study in a dental school in India where the strength is 70 girls:30 boys. What does that prove?

Dental Hygienist? Degree??
you wouldn't necessarily get a better job with a bachelors degree over an associates, but over time you would be eligible for greater promotions and pay. You would also be eligible for more jobs. However there is no guarantee; you may spend 4-5 years getting a Bachelors degree and end up in a job where an Associates would have been good enough.

I am a dental assistant and I love my job but how do you get along with the doctor's wife?

She can be pretty nice but very jealous and does not know anything about dentistry and is only there because he wants her there. She's very controlling and sometimes hard to get along with. She has the ability to snap at you one minute and the next she's nice to you. The dr. is great to work with and it's his wife that drives us all nuts. The other girls agree as well.

I am a dental assistant and I love my job but how do you get along with the doctor's wife?
I worked in a dental office where the wife was there as an assistant very jealous but sometimes nice. The only thing you can do is get with the other girls and confront the doctor this is his business plus he is male so he probably doesn't even know whats going on. Don't say anything bad about the wife because he will take her side, just say that there is tension at work maybe all of you can work something out. Be prepared to look for another job just in case. good luck. I made it 10 months at that office before I quit.
Reply:you should post this somewhere else, you probably wont get the answers you need here. try family %26amp; relationships
Reply:Jealous of the other women? Why? Ask her if she needs some help with her control problem. She may not snap if she's handled right.

Maybe she would be less jealous if you explained your all lesbians or something. Maybe hire a guy in case she doesn't go along with the lesbian control thing or starts snapping.

Getting rid of her can be hard if the husband wants her there. He probably has a problem with her too and maybe someone in the office can help out. Maybe you'll have to hire a guy and try the control thing.

The job may not be worth it. Start looking and have some options available.
Reply:How well do you like your job? It is never a good idea for a spouse to work in his/her spouse's office. Especially if she doesn't know anything about dentistry.
Reply:A dentist in academics was once saying that all private practicing dentists have affairs with their assistants. Maybe she is aware of that.

There is another guy I know who was in private practice for a long time, his wife was his office manager. He later divorced his wife - he said she was a wacko. Maybe this woman is too. A good dental assistant is needed everywhere - quit this job.

If I get two dental discount plans and the dentist office accepts both would that help me with costs at all?

I am desperate to get my dental work done since all the work I need to have done will probably end up costing me a ton. I need the best deal I can find to get the most serious work done before I go to school in August 2008. I am tired of always being in pain and being turned down by dental schools (if you can believe it) so I am working 3 jobs right now to save enough.

Also I know this sounds horrible but I am SO embarrassed by how bad I have let my teeth get, especially since I am only 23. So I am afraid of going to the dentist. I am also afraid because I have had some dental work done very poorly and my family has lost money on it. I am worried that if the work is not done right I will be shelling out a lot of money for nothing... :( Help me get my confidence please!

If I get two dental discount plans and the dentist office accepts both would that help me with costs at all?
Unfortunately, most discounts are exclusive -- you can use one or the other, but not both.
Reply:best thing to do is to go into Mexico %26amp; have your work done there.

i have 19 crowns / caps %26amp; totalling the cost of all 19 + the gas to drive there %26amp; the cost of hotel for several days, i spent less than ONE crown would have cost me in the states

plus they do the work quickly %26amp; ONLY what you want

day one i had the temporary caps on, 2 days later had the permanent ones installed

total trip time 4 days
Reply:Dental insurance is not expensive. Check with one of your employers and see if it's offered through them. Usually it's only about $5-$10 each paycheck. If they don't offer it, look into getting it on your own. It is well worth the few extra bucks you would pay a month rather than paying full price for services, it's more expensive than you could imagine!

Don't be embarrassed, they've probably seen worse, better to do it now than later.

Please help me if you can? Dental Plans or Discount dental service...?

I have a problem with my teeth, they are very fragile and no matter how much I brush after every meal and before bed and keep off sugary foods/drinks I am constantly breaking teeth and getting cavities. I spent $15K last year at the dentist trying to fix the major issues (root canals and wisdom teeth) and nipping as many of the little issues as I could afford to do. Now, I have mostly minor little issues here and there but still about another 10K in work to be done...dental is NOT CHEAP! I dont have dental insurance available to me through my job and most the companies that provide it have rules like only covering $2500 in work a year. I am trying so hard to find a dental plan that would actually help me get this work done since the longer I wait to do it the more expensive its gonna get. I live in Florida and either need suggestions on dental plan providers you know to be GOOD or if there are any places in South Eastern US that you know of that provide discount dental service. THANKS!

Please help me if you can? Dental Plans or Discount dental service...?
I know of two places in Florida where you can get affordable dental care (fees about half that of a private dentist):

University of Florida's College of Dentistry at Gainesville, and

Nova Southeastern University's School of Dental Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale.

Hope this helps.
Reply:I go to the dental school. I have had extensive dental work done, and the cost has been very reasonable. Also, the students are graded so they do a better job than a lot of dentists would. Dental schools not only have discounts, but they do a lot of research and can probably find out why your teeth are so fragile. You can all any university in your area that has a dental school and make an appt. Good Luck. It has saved me a ton of money.
Reply:Get your work done little by little. Most dentists are understanding about supplemental dental coverage. (We hardly refer to it as "insurance" any more.) If dental coverage had been adjusted with inflation, most Americans would receive about $5000/year. Unfortunately, it has not been re-worked since about 1976!

You can try to call 1-800-332-7068 to get help, they do not turn down any cases, I understand. And a lot of dentists offer some sort of discount for patients who pay out-of-pocket. Have you considered trying for Care Credit or Capital One? They are two reasonable plans that allow you to have a monthly payment to help out, and the first year may have no interest added to it. You can pretty much get the paperwork from any dental office.

I'm sorry for all your trouble, but keep at it. Since you have started to correct your oral issues, don't give up. Just think of it as an investment in yourself, your life. If you have to do it one tooth at a time, go for it, really. Perhaps the dentist will give you a few fillings or something at no charge. The office I work in is good about that.

Do you think there is a place for male dental hygentists in this female dominated career?

I have noticed everytime I go to get my teeth cleaned wherever it may be that it is always a woman doing it. I just read an article that says that dental hygetist is one of the most paid to-do jobs for not so much educational investment and I thought that I might want to do something like that. I am not sure, however since I don't see that many men doing the job and thought that perhaps men might not do it because dentists might rather have females working for them and not men. Do you think this may be a correct thought?

Do you think there is a place for male dental hygentists in this female dominated career?
There are two men in my class!
Reply:It could be a correct thought. Yet, in a world where women want equality, men should demand it as well. If you think you might be interested, go do it! In all honesty, I think it's female because most men become the dentist, not the hygienist. But I see no reason why you can't be the hygienist.
Reply:Definitely give it some serious consideration. There is NO reason NOT to get into dental hygiene. I don't believe dentists are going to concern themselves at all with your gender, only your skills and personality.
Reply:I think that there are many dentist that will hire a male.
Reply:Dental Hygiene is great for women who may not want to build up a patient load, as does a dentist. After all, when one is off for vacation, patients go elsewhere. All the more so on an extended maternity leave. However, there is no reason men would not enter the field.
Reply:I'm gonig to school in a male-dominated field, and I feel like the professors and people interviewing me appreciate the diversity I bring forth. I think traditionally it was women in hygenist field because they have smaller hands that are easier to work inside the mouth. But if you have compassion and gentleness, then go for it, love!

Dental Assistants! Do you like your job?? Is it boring, gross etc. What do you like and what don't you like?

How is the pay? Thank you

Dental Assistants! Do you like your job?? Is it boring, gross etc. What do you like and what don't you like?
It seems as if you are applying for a job. I am not a dental assistant but if you become one please have nice breath because patients don't like stinky breath in their face.
Reply:I was a dental assitant for sometime. Its not boring at all because you are always exposed to new cases to work with. There isn't anything in particular i didnt like. Only sometimes when the patients come in late, usually the dentist takes him in so you have to stay a little later than closing time. The pay was pretty good, depending where you are located. In New York City its about $15 and up.

Keep in mind, though, that if you don't have a stomach for blood or the image of really bad teeth, you are not going to like it.

Dental Hygienists: Do you like your job? Would you recommend this career?

As a dental hygienist of 15 years I can say I definately wouldn't choose to change my career. The pay is great, but that isn't really the best part of what I do. What I really enjoy the most is being respected medical professional that has the opportunity to make a genuine impact in my patient's lives. You can educate a person so that they can take better care of themself, or save them from a problem that is already present (like oral cancer). You might get to see a family grow (or grow up) if you are in a practice for a long enough time and may become the reason why the come to the office even though they are fearful. You might be part of a team that you look forward to working with. The opportunities to go out and help in the community (like talking with a group of girl scouts or at a school fair) are endless.

I graduated 15 years ago and the schooling is intense, but I also managed to work and have a boyfriend (who became my husband between the 1st and 2nd year). I just graduated this May with my Bachelor's degree, though many hygienists just get their Associate's so they can begin working to pay off their bills. You can furthur your education (from an associate's degree to a bachelor's) and teach at the college level, work as a sales rep or be involved in research. My flexibility with my schedule at work has allowed me to raise a family and go back to school for my bachelor's degree. My employer helps pay for uniforms and continuing education along with retirement and vacation benefits. It is best to be physically fit for this job. I could go on and on, but if you think this may be the career for you it might be a good time to ask your dentist if you could spend some time at the office and see what it is like. I currently have a high school junior shadowing me on Fridays...

Hope that helps!

Dental Benefits... I have lost my job and need a Dentist... Any ideas to find a cheap one thats GOOD?

Talk to your friends and neighbors, see who they trust with their teeth or their kids. I would also look into your community newspaper, as local dentists tend to advertise on there and then do your research on-line to find out if they're legit or have any cases against them, that kind of thing. The point is, do your research and ASK around.

Reply:i dont know if they are in your area, but, western dental( or any other TRAINING PRACTICE),do well for the money, most times a professional dentist does work, along with an assistant ( whos in training) thats why they are so reasonably priced, and they will take payments!!
Reply:Dental Cosmetic Treatment and Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges dental surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american patients. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website.

Is there a part time job that offers in a dental office or a dentist assistant or something similar?

If there is, please provide as much details!

Please don't trust anyone from a message board or chatroom as no one really knows how legit the 'offer' is :) A nanny searched Craigslist for another nanny position and was found dead in her car trunk. A 19 year old male was taken into custody. Just a word to the wise. Perhaps the local sunday classified ads will have such a job under 'dental' or 'office' or such.

Dental Coverage in Pennsylvania?

I live in pa and I need dental coverage. Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom. But I have recently decided I am going to start looking for a job. I am in a common law marriage. My significant other and I are going to terminate that in a few months (long story) once we get that much extra saved up. We do live together. He works, but his work does not have much of a dental plan and they didn't opt for common law coverage when they signed with their insurance companies. But because we are common law right now, I do not qualify for medical assistance. We are paying off a loan until about the end of september so we are basically living paycheck to paycheck with a tiny bit extra just in case something come up. Anyway, my point is that I think my only other option is to purchase dental individually. Even if I found a job soon, I will have to wait at least 3 months til I can buy their coverage. So, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy coverage and how much it will cost me.

Dental Hygientist?? Do you like your job? Would you recommend going to school to become a dental hygientist?

What are the pros and cons?

Dental Hygientist?? Do you like your job? Would you recommend going to school to become a dental hygientist?
My friend is a dental hygienist and she loves her job! The pay is pretty good and If you like people to have fresh clean teeth it's good.
Reply:Hello! I am a practicing dental hygienist and I LOVE my job. I work in a small general practice in a rural area. I would recommend going to school to become a dental hygienist. We have great working hours, holidays and weekends off, we get to interact and get to know our patients and form relationships with them and also receive great pay and benefits as well. I went to school and obtained a bachelors of science degree, however, I am the only hygienist whom is incorporated with my dental chain (of 5 offices and 7 full time hygienists) with a four year degree. The other hygienists have a two year associates degree and are just as competent as I believe I am. Good luck with your future career endeavor!

Dental hygienist in Massachusetts?

In the Boston area, do they really make about $80,000? Wow. Do you think that will change very dramaticaly w/in the next couple of years? I know dental hygiene is one of those increasing pay and demand jobs lately, but do you think it will stay that way for a while? yea Ican afford a $400,000 house on my own (assuming I spend 1/3 of my salary over 15 years)!

Dental hygienist in Massachusetts?
I do not know about the pay, but if you buy a house you can not afford before you find out if you want to spend the next 15 to 30 years on this job you will be in trouble. either start by renting and saving your money for a good down payment of buy a starter home and upgrade as you financial situation improves.
Reply:I would not be surprised at all if they do make that amount. There is a dramatic shortage of doctors and nurses in America... so the demand is very high for them. I would look to see the income of various doctors go up dramatically within the next ten years.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get dental x-ray certification?

If you are a dental assistant...do you like your job? Is it difficult? Do you have any info that could be helpful? Thank you.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get dental x-ray certification?
I think the price differs from state to state. Some states require only written testing and some require hands on seminars and testing. My boss paid my fees for my testing. I think it runs anywhere between $50-100 dollars a test or more. There is x-ray (radiography) certification, polishing, topical fluoride, nitruos oxide, and a few more certification tests also. I loved being a dental assistant, I liked watching the blood. Wierd. I also liked calming people, explaining things so they understood. I went back to hygiene school for the pay and better hours.
Reply:I think the xray cert through DANB is $125, but I'm not sure.

I love my job~ I wouldn't say it was difficult.. challenging is a better word.

The only info I have would be to stay with it since the possibilities are endless... and just make sure you know what the scope of practice is for your state so you know what you are allowed to do legally.........and what you aren't.

Best of luck!

Do they offer on the job training to become a dental assistant?

Trying to help my Mother find a better job. Right now shes working at a front desk for a doctor's office, and the pay isn't all to great.

Do they offer on the job training to become a dental assistant?
i highly doubt it. i'm pretty sure you need to be certified.
Reply:Only to students of an accredited dental assistant school.
Reply:I have several friends who completed a Basic Dental Assisting program at a tech school %26amp; it only took them 1 quarter (3 months). One of them is currently trying to get a job at an orthodontist's office %26amp; they send their assistants to a week-long course to teach them the specifics of ortho. assisting. Maybe your mom could see if an orthodontist will hire her %26amp; then send her for training.

Jobs for predental students?

I am finishing up my second year in college and I want to go to dental school. What is a good job to apply for during my undergrad??

Jobs for predental students?
dental assistant

X-ray technician

Hygienist.
Reply:You could see if there are any internships or general openings in dental offices -- probably just in the office. You won't have the degree to be a hygenist or X-ray tech, but there might be office assistant or other assistant positions that would give you experience with being in a dentist's office and observing, even if you're not doing the heavy work yourself.

Dental Field or Nursing Field?

I cant decide what field i should go into. Its between dental hygienist and a registered nurse. I really like both jobs. I was wondering if you could help me decide and give me + and - for both jobs. Thank you!!!

Dental Field or Nursing Field?
I must say I dont know much about dental hygienist except that they clean peoples teeth and to me they mostly have " business " hours.

RN's are very much in demand and depending on where you want to go to work you could be looking at pay wages at $25-$35 hr. You must remember though this field is not for the faint hearted but your rewards are wonderful at the end. I work at a children's hosp. and when you see the babies it makes you wonder how they manage to cope with adult ailment better then the adults themselves.

I know this wasnt much help to you but I have a lot of appreciation for RN's,seeing how the do most of the work in a heathcare environment.

Good luck!
Reply:I have the same dillema, but as far as researched nursing gives you more opportunity for even higher education if you want to.Finding the job is easier as well.Good luck.

My job does not offer any dental insurance? Where can I purchase them? What's best for a starting couple?

check this link its good

My job does not offer any dental insurance? Where can I purchase them? What's best for a starting couple?
The best place is Manulife--Call 1(800)coverme. You can also go on manulifes website, and get a quote. With my experience for two healthy non-smokers it will be about $100 a month, but the coverage for private insurance always sucks.(like 70% coverage and $500 max per year) Your better off putting the money into savings for a rainy day.

How can I know the top cosmetic dental surgeries in my area?

I want to put a porcelain bridge on my upper front teeth iin Cambridge. However, I do not know how could I find out which dental surgery will do a proper job. I want my bridge to look just like my own teeth or almost like that. Just like celebrities have. I have seen people with bridges and some of their bridges look like horse's teeth. They look somehow bulky.

Also, what would be the best type of the porcelain bridge? I have seen some on the websites which have some mettal on the inner side of the bridge and I do not like it at all as it looks cheap.

Many thanks!

How can I know the top cosmetic dental surgeries in my area?
Look in the yellow pages of a phone book and look for ones that advertise "cosmetic dentistry". Not all dentists do this so you want to pick one that does. All of your concerns should be addressed with your dentist.
Reply:First you must do research of all the Dr. in your area.. by word of mouth, in other words from other people..go on line and look up Dr in your area, and see what kind of ratings they have, and see if they have any kind of lawsuits they may have..

Know that you are in control !! tell them exactly what you want, you sound like me, and you probably have small teeth.. and the reg. teeth they make look like horse teeth in your mouth , or those that you have seen, you do not have to take the teeth if you are not satisfied.. they have to make them right.. A good Dr will know what he is doing, and will listen to you and know what size to make, but go in telling them that you do not want to look like Wilbur the talking horse when they are done with you !! It is your money get all you can for it.. good luck !!
Reply:Cosmetic dental surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Which job has a better pay: Respiratory Therapists or Dental Hygienists?

Also, how much does a Dental Dental Hygienists get pay with an associated degree? And which community college has an easy Dental Hygienists program to graduate?

Which job has a better pay: Respiratory Therapists or Dental Hygienists?
Respiratory therapists get paid more than dental hygienists.

Reply:Don't know what respiratory therapists make, but I am a dental hygienist and I work for a state that has one of the lowest pays for hygienists however my pay is not bad. I work salary per day which means if patients cancel or dont show I get paid some hygienists work commission see lots of patients and make more. However, working on salary I get more time to spend with patients and don't have to rush. $300 dollars a day is good for my state but I know many hygienists in other states make more. I work only 4 days a week 8-12/2-5. I can always work less, many hygienists work 2-3 days a week. However, many hygienists burn out quickly b/c the work can be very repetitive.

Oh, I have an associates degree. Bachelors and Associate pay will be the same. You just learn the same amount in less time w/ associate degree. The only reason to have a Bachelors right now in dental hygiene is if you plan to go on and get your masters to teach or do other types of work in dental hygiene for a company like Crest or etc.

None of the dental hygiene programs will be easy, if they are it will probably put you at a disadvantage for board exams.

Anyone a dental hygienist?

I graduated from dental assisting school. Did very well. Had a few jobs, wasn't worth the pay the way doc's treated me. Thinking of going into Hygiene, do the doc's have a little more respect for hygienist rather an assistant?

Anyone a dental hygienist?
CRYSTAL,

ANY SMART DENTIST KNOW VERY WELL THAT THEIR HYGIENE DEPARTMENT IS A LARGE PART OF THEIR PRACTICE.AS A DENTAL HYGIENIST YOU WILL BE IN A DIFFERENT CROWD THAN AN ASSISTANT.

YOU WILL DEFINITELY BE TREATED WELL BY DENTISTS.
Reply:Go for it!!!! go to dental hygiene school. It is hard but it will be great to get paid $40 p/h
Reply:Getting respect from your peers or boss has nothing to do with what your job title is. You will get what you give. Don't tolerate lack of respect. However if you are a person that does not give respect when warranted than you will never receive it.

ADD:

Doc Albert,

No she won't be in a different crowd. She is a person. Hygiene make up a part of a team, just as the assistants, FD, doctors etc. As you know many hygienists have a terrible attitude, a holier than thou attitude. In my opinion when you make blanket statements like that you are in fact perpetuating the stereo type that hygienists are prima-donna's when in fact most of us are not. I can see that you value your hygiene department and that should be admired, however a good assistant can be just as valuable as a hygienist. People choose different careers for many different reasons, should one person be "in a different crowd" because they chose such? While I can bring production numbers up doing what I do, couldn't the same be said of a good assistant that makes your job easier and more efficient, thus you produce more and faster? Just my thoughts.
Reply:I'd go for it. I am trying to get into the dental hygienist program now. My aunt has been one for 20+ years and loves it. If you find a good dentist, they will treat you differently. They will do what it takes to keep you. There is a shortage of hygienists and schools to educate them.

Good Luck and wise choice.

What do I need to do to get into dental school?

I'm a freshman undergrad right now, but I want to be a dentist and perhaps specialize in something...what sorts of things should I be doing right now to get into dental school? I'm taking pre-med/pre-dent classes right now, but I know that the pre-med students usually do research during their breaks to have a better chance of getting into med-school. Is there anything I need to do? Are there any student jobs I can hold until I get to dental school? Which dental schools are the best to go to or does it not matter? Do any of them offer scholarships? What are ideal DAT scores to achieve and when can I take the DATs? And I hope to someday open my own private office?

Any other advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.

What do I need to do to get into dental school?
My advice is make sure you don't do a specific pre med course - they generally attract the best and brightest who you must compete against. Enroll in an arts or science program that allows you to take the required subjects to get admitted to dental school eg basic math, physics, chem, biology and English. Aside form that concentrate on getting the best GPA you can.

I have 2 (a son %26amp; a daughter) in dental school right now. The competion is strong. They both put themselves out of the box %26amp; volunteered in their community (Big Brother, animal shelters, working with the homeless). They both do no parties on weekends. They both hold jobs %26amp; got to know people in positions that could write recommends for them. They also volunteered at dental clinics. You are on the rright track with your classes just carry a good amount of math %26amp; biology. My 2 children also have a strong background in travel including living 3 yrs in Saudi Arabia %26amp; they also have strong foreign language backgrounds (German, Spanish, French, Italian, %26amp; Japanese). The actual dental college will look at things you did without getting paid for then jobs you held. My children took the DAT's twice each of them %26amp; they took the first one approx. 9 mos. before school was scheduled to start. Good luck %26amp; I hope I helped some. There are really alot of good dental schools out there it's just alot of competition also.
