Is anyone a dental hygienist?

My friends are all taking CNA classes so when they get out of high school they have a decent paying job while going to college...I want to find something like that...but I'm not really into being a CNA...my friend was talking about other jobs you could do and the one I was most interested in is a dental hygienist....does anyone know if you could do the same type of program?

Dental Hygiene would be more along the line of getting your RN. I am in the process right now of trying to get into a dental hygiene program; and I will be up front and honest- This program is very hard to get into and has two years of intense schooling.

A CNA can get their certificate by taking one class and passing an exam. You could try a Dental Assisting program, but you would still have a longer time in school than a CNA.

On the bright side, if you are willing to put in the hard work and get accepted into a Dental Hygiene program, you will be greatly rewarded.

In my area, CNA's start at around $10 per/hr, Dental Assistants- $12 per/hr, Nurses- $30 per/hr and Dental Hygienists- $32+.

This is not to say that money should be your only factor, but you need to decide what your level of decent pay equates to.

As a side note, most of your careers in the medical field (that are not assistant level) will be relatively well-paying and typically in demand.

Good Luck with your choice.
