Dental Asst.???
I have never worked out side my area of Ohio and I work in an endo office now for the past 5 yrs. but for the last 3 years I've made right at 38,500 a year. And when I first got into the field 6 1/2 years ago I made my first year 31,000. Hope this helps!
Reply:In Canada there is a demand for all health care occupations. I was a dental ceramist for many years and you may want to consider becoming a dental technician rather that an assistant. Technicians make a fair bit more money, if that's what you are interested in. I was in fact in demand. Hygienists also make a lot more that the assistants and a bit more than technicians.
I know of many people who went through the dental assistant course, got on the job and hated it. I would also like to point out that the dental industry has one of the highest suicide rates, because of the pressures inherent in this field. The dental field is not for everyone!
Reply:Hygienist make twice the amount of money. Your looking at depending on your area. 20-26 a year.
Reply:I have found that there is always a demand for dental assts. I started in the dental field 12 years ago as a dental asst. The starting wage can vary. In CA, if you are not a registered dental assistant then your pay rate will be lower, but once you become an RDA, the pay rate jumps dramatically. I recently moved to Nevada, so the pay rate out here is a lot less than CA, but it goes with the cost of living. I was making about 48K a year with great benefits in CA. It's a great career. I'm no longer a dental assistant, I now work in the front in a different capacity and my background as an assistant makes a big difference. Hope all this helps.
