Dental School Admission Question--PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!?

I am a sophomore in my 2nd semester. I hope to achieve my D.D.S. The problem is, a T.A. told me that i was not a good candidate for dental school, and that I should rethink my life. He says that dental school is now harder to get into than med school. I have a cumulative gpa of a 3.0 after 3 semesters of college. (It's low i know, but I really hope to bring it up). I transferred in from high school over 30 college credits with a gpa of a 3.78. This gpa does not configure into my current college gpa, because they were from another institution they go as a "T" on my transcripts.I work two jobs, one on my campus, and a retail job off of campus. I am a resident advisor at my school. I am also an officer in the bio club, and very active in other campus clubs and activities. I am also very active in my community, also I intern every summer and winter break with a dentist and oral surgeon. Is it true? Am i really not dental school material. Or is it still possible to get in? PLEASE HELP!

The average GPA of students that get into most Dental Schools is about a 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale), but they will accept you with a lower GPA. They do consider earlier course study, number of courses, difficulty of courses, etc, so you could always explain these things on your application. If you get a good score on your DAT, you should be alright (18 or higher is probably good). There are a lot of Dental Schools out there, so you should look around at their different requirements.

Good luck!
Reply:Tell your TA to be quiet. Just do your best to get your grades up and do your best. When you get into Dental School you will know that the TA has no idea what he talking about.

Although GPA plays an important role your interview is just as important. They want to know YOU. There are plenty of people with Perfect GPAs or High DATs that get rejected and there are plenty of people with 3.2 and 3.3 that get accepted. So just work hard and do your best.
